Some vehicles use dashboard codes or monitoring systems instead of a simple fixed mileage schedule. The meaning of a code has to come from the manufacturer system used by that specific vehicle.
Rather than counting distance alone, the vehicle tracks operating data such as engine running time, temperature behaviour and load, and calculates when a service is due. The result is displayed as a code, a percentage of remaining life, or a message. The calculation is manufacturer software, and it is not published as a simple table.
Many vehicles use both. The monitor calls the main service, while separate items keep fixed distance or time limits of their own. A code shown on the dash usually maps to a defined group of tasks in that manufacturer documentation, so the display tells you when, and the documentation tells you what.
Each manufacturer defines its own scheme. Honda uses a system it calls Maintenance Minder, with its own letters and numbers, and that naming does not carry over to other brands. A letter or digit shown by another manufacturer belongs to that manufacturer system and can mean something entirely different. Treating all of them as one system produces wrong service work.
